The Oil Pastel Society

presents

"Transitions"
2008

From your staff:

The title of the show this year was chosen to highlight our transition from an online community to the smaller local groups which are forming across the country to provide avenues for the oil pastel artists to meet and share their work, to hold local shows, and to create a greater interest in the oil pastel medium. If you are interested in starting a local group or have one going, let us know!

We again want to thank Sakura of America for its continued support in sponsoring an Award of Excellence this year.

Thank you to Tom Jensen, our Awards Judge! Visit his website, take a look at some awesome paintings, and let him know how much we appreciate the difficult decisions he had to make in choosing the winners for the show this year!

Most of all, our thanks go out to all of you, the members who have supported the Society thru four years of  "transition".  This year's show is proof enough of the growth and excellence that artists can achieve with oil pastels, and we know it will be an inspiration to all our viewers.

Meet The Awards Judge:

  Tom Jensen

"First, I'd like to thank you so much for the opportunity to jury your fine show. As a fellow oil pastel artist, it is my pleasure and my honor. You know, other than for the shoe leather, I think jurying digital images is a bit more agonizing than doing it in a big room with artwork scattered all over the place. I've had so much more time to study the artwork.

Because oil pastels are so incredibly versatile, I wanted to choose my top awards based not solely on artistic merit but technical mastery of the medium. I could not have been happier with the Best of Show entry. I wish I'd have done the George Shipperly pieces myself. I chose the Sukura of America Award for it's vibrant use of color.

All of the top award artists impressed me with their creative skill and I'm afraid I ran out of Honorable Mention awards!"

Visit Tom's Website and view his remarkable paintings!
