Landscapes have always been the artist’s favorite subject. He is inspired by the poetry of nature, especially trees and how they relate to one another. With the exception of Cityscapes and portraits, the majority of George Shipperley’s work is imaginary. He prefers this method because it allows an unlimited freedom of design and composition, and not just the rendering of a photograph.
George Shipperley has been a resident of Aurora, Illinois since the 1950s, where he met and married Lois, his wife of 49 years. Together they raised three daughters and now have six grandchildren.
As a young adult, George served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon leaving the service, he and his wife returned to Illinois where he pursued a 33-year sales career with an international manufacturing company. During this time, George and his wife opened Henrich Art Gallery and Custom Frame Shop located in Aurora. The shop is still owned and operated by his wife.
George retired from his sales career in 1994 and began to follow his passion for art, which evolved into a fulfilling career. As an impressionist artist with an emphasis on originality, creativity and color, George specialized in pastel, acrylic, and oil stick mediums. His work can be viewed in the Chicago metropolitan and Fox Valley areas at fine art shows and throughout the year at Henrich Art Gallery. He is an art instructor, member of the Palette & Chisel Academy in Chicago, and the first awarded signature member of the Oil Pastel Society.
